What is Form-in-Place (FIP) sealing?
A form-in-place (FIP) seal is a seal that is dispensed as a liquid onto a surface. The liquid seal thus fills only the space required and then cures under heat, light or moisture and the material is held in place.

What can FIP sealants be used for?
FIP seals are used as environmental seals and even for electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding. FIP seals can be found in almost all industries:

  • Military
  • Communications
  • Electronics
  • Aircraft
  • Medical devices
FIP seals can be found in everything from satellites, semiconductors and mobile devices to WiFi routers, radar systems and radiation therapy devices.

What are the benefits of FIP seals?

The reason you can find FIP seals in all kinds of devices, in all industries, is because of the unique benefits they offer.

Here are the key benefits of FIP seals:

  • Accuracy
Because FIP gaskets are dispensed in liquid form, they can fill spaces with extreme precision that gaskets produced by other methods cannot.

  • Durability
FIP gaskets are resistant to extreme heat and cold, corrosion, UV radiation and repetitive forces. This makes them ideal for a wide variety of engineering applications.

  • Flexibility
Although FIP seals can fit into small spaces with great precision, they are not limited to these types of applications. You can dispense almost any size FIP gasket, large or small.

  • Waste-free
Unlike other gasket manufacturing methods, FIP gasketing does not generate waste. FIP seals fill exactly where they are supposed to, nothing more.

  • Reduced assembly steps
Extrusion, stamping and similar gasket manufacturing methods require the operator to place the gasket on the workpiece, but FIP gaskets skip this step. This is because they are dispensed directly onto the workpiece. Reducing the assembly steps also reduces manufacturing cost and time.
